The intersection of financial responsibility & fitness instruction: My top, tried-and-true lululemon picks
I'm a member of the lululemon collective, which means I will receive commission if you purchase a product linked on this page from lululemon. Of course, I'm recommending products that I've purchased myself with my own money — in some cases, many times.
I found out this year that my American Express card gives me a Year-End Summary that outlines my top merchants. When I opened mine, I was feeling high, mighty, and ready to be patted on the back for my spending habits.
Most were unsurprising: Delta Airlines from the time I bought flights to Amsterdam for several Teammates (expensed and reimbursed), my old apartment complex from when I paid rent on my car for a few months to hit the spend threshold, etc.
Then I saw it there, looming at #4: lululemon.
In all my frugal glory (and I mean GLORY — I haven't bought new "real" clothes in years), I somehow managed to spend over $1,100 at lululemon last year.
And you know what? I'm not mad about it. In fact, those purchases have served me well, and I believe every person should have that one "splurge-y" thing they buy that flies in the face of their otherwise frugal-ish lifestyle. I love when this splurge-y thing coincides with a healthy hobby or passion, but your splurge is your decision.
Now that I've taught two formats (Yoga Sculpt and Cycle) and sweat in hundreds of different combinations of workout sets, I decided to round up my top six picks from lululemon that are — in my mind — unquestionably worth the money.
Keep in mind two things:
Can you think of anything else you've owned for eight years where the retailer would replace it for free because it got worn out?
Without further ado, these are my top picks:
For yoga, sculpt, and other low-impact classes
For cycle and other intense workouts
For wearing athleisure to work artfully and bumming around town
If I could only own six things from lululemon, it'd be these pieces. I definitely don't want to encourage irresponsible spending, but if you love exercise and lululemon is in your budget, I think you'll find these pieces to be worth the investment long-term.
